Longest taco - world record
set by Mexico City
Plaza Garibaldi, Mexico City, Mexico -- During
the First Taco and Mariachi Festival at Garibaldi Square
in Mexico City, local Chefs prepared the most emblematic gastronomic
saucer of Mexico, a giant taco measuring 134ft (40.9 metres)
- which sets the new
world record for the Longest
taco.
Local authorities and 38 local establishments,
dedicated to preparing this very popular Mexican dish the
'taco,' helped in this effort.
'We try to preserve our culture and roots.
That's why we are carrying out this festival and that's why
we're trying to make the World's
Largest Taco, made in Mexico,' said taco restaurant
owner and participant, Marco Antonio Ginea.
Thousands of pieces of pork, pineapple,
coriander, onion, beef, chicken, beans, cheese, cream, rice
among other ingredients were mixed in to create the taco.
The long taco challenge kicks off
a 10-day festival aimed at cleaning up Plaza Garibaldi which
is famed for raucous open-air drinking and folk music.
