Largest Canned Food Structure-world record
set in Wellington
WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Wellington
Secondary School leaders and the On The Edge Trust
made a 54,527 can structure from cans of food which was just
over 360 square metres and spelled the word iCAN-setting the
world record for the Largest
Canned Food Structure. Photo: Over the course of only one month,
the iCAN crew has collected donations through Wellington schools,
businesses, supermarket collections, door knocking and many
other creative ways to inspire the community into action.(enlarge

Passers-by
were amazed and inspired by the work that has gone into this
initiative and the fact that it has been run by a group of
people who are all under the age of 24.
The Largest
Canned Food Structure itself was built in just one
day and two sleep-deprived nights in Wellington’s Civic Square.
The previous record, set in the USA was 45,725
cans.
The Salvation Army has said that due to the
overwhelming success of iCAN, they will be able to help out
their struggling Christchurch centres which are only weeks
away from running out of food.
