Largest Pancake Breakfast: Springfield sets world record (Video)
SPRINGFIELD, MA, USA -- The city's 375th anniversary kicked off in the heart of downtown with over 400 people who lined main street to attend the pancake breakfast , setting the world record for the Largest Pancake Breakfast.
The Guinness world record for the largest pancake toss is 405 and is achieved by Bram Zwiers in the show Mooi! Weer de Leeuw in Almere, Netherlands.
Guinness World Records also recognized the tallest stack of pancakes: it measured 77 cm (2 ft 6 in) and was achieved by Paul Dedroog and Alfons Lowie (both Belgium).
Thousands of people lined main street waiting to pick up one of those perfect pancakes.
"I've been cooking every year and I do a lot of it at home too," said Doug Prive. Priven cooked over 500 pancakes.
The World's Largest Pancake Breakfast was followed by Springfield's 375th Parade that proceeded down State and then Main Street.
Parade marchers and units included neighborhood and veterans groups, community organizations, Springfield city departments, contingents from surrounding towns, and the Massachusetts National Guard's 215th Army Band.
Other participants included the Melha Shriners, Belchertown Twirlers, Quaboag Highlanders Pipes & Drums, Springfield Central High School Band, and the Springfield Kiltie Band.
"We are the city of first and its important to look back on heritage our history traditional diversity and celebrating that but more impact use that to move the City of Springfield forward," said Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.
Judith A. Matt, president of Spirit of Springfield -- the group that threw the city a birthday bash -- said between 20,000 to 25,0000 people attended the breakfast and parade.
The world record was sponsored by Springfield Business Improvement District.
