Biggest Bed Jump-world record set by InterContinental

NEW YORK, NY, USA -- For over a 16-hour time span,an
estimated 20,000 people across the globe in New York,
Shanghai, Paris and London jumped on
four giant beds to celebrate the five million free room nights
up for grabs and set the record for the World's Biggest
Bed Jump.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the World's
Biggest Bed Jump and encourage people around the world
to have fun jumping on the bed for the launch of IHG's' Biggest
Free Nights' offer," said Olympic gold medalist and "Dancing
With The Stars" contestant Shawn Johnson.
"With our 'Biggest Free Nights' Offer,
we have nearly five million free nights available in over
4,000 hotels across 100 countries and seven brands, including
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn and Holiday
Inn Express," said Tom Seddon, IHG's Chief Marketing
Officer.
"To celebrate the promotion we're inviting people
to come and rediscover the fun and excitement of bed jumping
and certainly to put a big smile on their faces."
A team of 100 people worked for five weeks
to build the 42 foot by 28 foot beds, topping them with 30
double mattresses and a huge super sized duvet that could
cover 65 regular double-beds.
Construction involved:
* Six tons of steel
* 2,200 lbs of wood
* And more than 200,000 nuts and bolts
Featured athletes included:
* Bryant Park, New York, USA: Shawn Johnson,
2008 Olympic women's balance beam gold medalist and individual
all-round silver medalist
* Century Square, Shanghai, China: Jiang Yi
Qi, the 2008 Trampoline World Cup, women's synchronized
champion
* La Place de la Defense, Paris, France: Marina
Ducroux, the 2007 French women's trampoline champion and
David Martin, four time French trampoline champion
* Covent Garden, London, UK: Jamie Moore
and James Higgins from the 2012 Great Britain Olympic
team
