"I know the crowd will enjoy the display. They just gasp when
they come in here. It's always full of people."
With this new 36.1 in (91.694 cm) cucumber, Alf
Cobb beated his own previous record of 35.1in.
In fact the cucumber was almost 7lb heavier than
the earlier world record that was set by a fellow British
grower, Mark Baggs, in 2005.
Growers from around the world visit the annual
event, which includes the giant fruit and vegetable competition
as its highlight.
The world
record cucumber is just one of the oversized exhibits
at the giant vegetable contest taking place at the Bath and
West Showground this weekend.
