The Guinness world record for the Largest circuit training at a single venue is 317 and was achieved by We Promote Health, Inc. (USA) in Ellicott City, Maryland, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest hula hoop workout consisted of 221 students from Longleaf Elementary School (USA) in New Port Richey, Florida, USA.
Teachers, parents, students and the public attended the world record event at the Cowichan Sportsplex.
Cowichan School District 79 was joined by students all over the island for the fitness challenge.
Event co-ordinator Jessica Anderson didn't have the final numbers on Friday afternoon, but said 2,000 people is a safe estimate.
"I'm ecstatic," she said. "How this community has come together is phenomenal."
Teacher Mike Moroz said it is a great success.
"Lots of different schools from all over the district participating with their staff, it's wonderful."
Grandmother of one participant, Loretta King said that this is an encouraging sign of a healthier future.
"If you can get kids to project for a bit instead of just living for the moment and project to how they want to feel or look in a year, or five years, that helps them to get motivated for the future."
