The Guinness World Records' record for the largest human Christmas tree consists of 2,945 participants and was achieved by the Government of Honduras in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on 1 December 2014.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest human smiley; it consists of 4,047 participants and was achieved by Smile Hypermarket (Qatar) in Doha, Qatar, on 27 March 2015. More than 500 people took part in the event to raise awareness for a Yes vote in next month's Marriage Equality referendum.
The event, which was organised by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), took place in Smithfield Square at 12 noon.
To meet the requirements of the Guinness World Records, participants had to dress in red, assemble into the shape of a love heart and hold the formation for five minutes.
"It was amazing to see over 500 people turning out in the horrible weather with such fantastic enthusiasm. Hopefully the positive energy shown today will translate itself into a Yes vote on 22 May next," she added.
On 22 May, the electorate will receive two ballot papers asking them to vote on the proposal to legalise same-sex marriage and on reducing the age of presidential candidates from 35 to 21, the UTV Ireland reported.
