  Largest Superhero Gathering - Megamind event sets world record  
  LOS ANGELES, Calif., USA -- 1580 superheroes arrived at LA Live for an event which promoted the upcoming animated feature, "MegaMind" - setting the new world record for the Largest Superhero Gathering.

   The film's star, Will Ferrell, was presented with an "megasized" certificate from Guinness World Records representative Stuart Claxton, who was joined on stage by Dreamworks SKG chief Jeffrey Katzenberg and the film's director, Tom McGrath.

   McGrath instructed the numerous Batmans and Spider-Mans in the crowd to battle each other.

   Funnyman Will Ferrell star's publicity drive for new animated movie MegaMind saw film fans in Los Angeles head to the Staples Centre dressed as an "easily recognizable superhero that has appeared in a published book, comic, television program or film" for the record attempt.

   When the announcement was made that they beat the 1501 superhero target (the official number was 1580), a huge screen behind the stage lit up with the words 'We Did It!'
   
    American Comic book writer Stan Lee, 87, who wrote Spiderman, the X-Men, and The Hulk was also spotted at the event.

   The film MegaMind is an animated comedy film by DreamWorks that stars Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill.

    The film follows Megamind (Will Ferrell) and his life-long archenemy Metro Man (Brad Pitt) who are aliens that were sent away from their respective home planets in time of crisis.

   Megamind, taking the role of super villain, tries to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way, each attempt a colossal failure thanks to Metro Man, who becomes the hero of Metro City.

    The battle between the two rages until Metro Man is killed and MegaMind has to step into his shoes to become the cities hero.

   The previous Guinness World record for the Largest Superhero Gathering was 1,500 set by a New Hampshire children’s hospital way back in… August.
