It is part of the tradition to serve date
in steel dishes and not of porcelain or china.
The dates had been donated by Liwa farmers.
The plate, fitted with 15 carrying handles, was manufactured
in Abu Dhabi and had to be transported to the Western Region
by an oversized lorry.
Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubaisi, a member of the organising
committee told Gulf News "we could not count the dates in
the dish but it could be about one million fruit."
As the pride of the festival claimed its place
in history, Mohammed al Qubaisi, one of the organisers, said:
“This will enable us to become known internationally; we are
really happy to have this record and achieve something for
our country.”
Another record was very nearly set when an unnamed
festival-goer offered to buy the plate – complete with dates,
worth an estimated Dh300,000 (US$81,680) – for Dh4 million.
The offer was declined.
The festival is organised under the patronage
of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince
of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed
Forces.
