Most
Ballerinas on Pointe -world record set by
NYC ballerinas
NEW YORK CITY, USA -- 241 ballerinas of all ages from
the American Ballet Theatre and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls
Club came at the Bandshell in Central Park to stand en pointe
for one minute - setting the new world record for the Most
Ballerinas on Pointe at One Time.
The previous Guinness World Record holder
for the Most
Ballerinas on Pointe at One Timewas the Youth America
Grand Prix 10th Anniversary last April at City Center, with
220 dancers participating.
"We're making history through dance,"
said Craig Salstein, a soloist with the Amercan Ballet Theatre,
who led the dancers.
The Break the Ballet Record came about
as a project of esteemed ballet photographer Gene
Schiavone. According to Romney, the purpose was to
just have some fun and gather as many of Schiavone's Facebook
fans together as possible.
Ballet dancers from around the country ages
13 and up were invited to join the record-breaking event --
and to donate $10. Proceeds from the event went to the Kips
Bay Boys and Girls Club Performing Arts Program.
Hosted by American Ballet Theater’s
Principal Dancer Michele Wiles, Craig Salstein choreographed
a group of over 200 ballet students, professionals, and retires.
