Largest
Greek Salad - Cretan people sets world record
IERAPETRA, Crete, Greece -- Residents of
the Greek island of Crete made a Greek salad from 6,5 tons
of tomatoes, 3 tons of cucumbers, 800 kg of sheep (Feta) cheese
and 0,5 tons of olive oil weighing more than 12 tons - setting
the new world record for the Largest
Greek Salad.

The
previous Guinness world record for the
Largest Greek Salad was made in Israel and
weighed 10,2 tons.
The World's
Largest
Greek Salad was made from 6,5 tons of tomatoes, 3
tons of cucumbers, 800 kg of Feta cheese and 500 kg of olive
oil.
The president of the Welfare Organization
of Ierapetra Mr Spyros Tsikaloudakis along with many associations
and local groups organized the successful world record attempt
for the Largest
Greek Salad in The World .
The campaign was initiated by the Cretan
farmers to prove that they have been exporting high quality
products.
One of the main activities in the area is
agriculture and the greenhouses of Ierapetra are known for
their quality and quantity of production, covering an area
of 13,000,000 square meters between the towns of Ierapetra
and Myrtos.
The agricultural production can be divided
into two main parts, the olive oil and the fruit and vegetables.
Huge quantities of tomatoes are produced in the greenhouses
in Ierapetra and the local farmers are among the wealthiest
in Crete.
